There was sobbing and tears in a Lauderdale County (Miss.) courtroom when a logging tape was played of a 911 call placed after two Wiggins police officers were shot to death in 2005. Stone County dispatcher Jennifer Harris fielded a 911 hang-up call from a woman who had been followed home by a stranger, and then attacked inside her home. The 8-year veteran testified that she called the number back, heard arguing, and dispatched two officers. She later heard the sounds of a fight on the open phone line, and called adjacent agencies for back-up. Arriving deputies found the two officers shot to death. “I’ve never had to say ‘officers down’ in all my years doing this job,” Harris told the court. Read more about the incident and the trial here.
