County Changes Sick Leave Policy

The Cabell County (WV) commission has approved a plan to that offers a give-and-take for dispatcher sick leave. They’ve increased the allowed paid sick leave from three days to four (per year?), but have also added some severe restrictions. Center director Mike Davis said the four days can be taken individually or up to two days together. Beyond those four days, sick leave without a doctor’s excuse is considered an “offense,” with the first incident resulting in no pay, the next with up to 3 days off without pay, and termination possible beyond that. Further, dispatchers are subject to discipline for taking off on their last scheduled day before a holiday, the holiday itself or their first scheduled day after a holiday. Violations of this policy could result in unpaid suspensions or firing.
