FCC OKs NYC 700/800 MHz System

The FCC has approved plans by the state of New York to build a 700/800 MHz public safety radio network serving New York City region agencies, but it also imposed several restrictions intended to limit interference to the region’s digital TV stations. The state’s Oct. 2005 waiver request came before the FCC reorganized the 700/800 MHz band, forcing the state to submit a revised waiver request earlier this year that puts the stat’s channels in competition with DTV stations before their switch to other frequencies in 2009, when all stations go digital. The FCC’s conditions call for full interference reporting and troubleshooting. Download (pdf) the FCC’s full waiver approval here.
