Yet another fire has destroyed the home of a dispatcher, this time in Chesapeake (Virg.), where the two-story home of Starla Chatham was reported on fire while Starla Chatham was on-duty. In fact, Chatham herself answered several calls about the fire, then exclaimed, “That’s my house.” Firefighters responded but could not stop the fire before it gutted the interior and took the life of the family’s dog. Chatham was driven to the scene by firefighters to find the house and contenst a total loss. A wood-burning stove too close to a wall caused the fire investigators said. The family is staying with relatives, and friends are helping the family. Watch an early video report here, and a new follow-up report here.
