Dispatchers Work Under the Steps

Warren County E911 (Vicksburg, Miss.) dispatchers continue to work from a space in the courthouse basement, beneath the front steps of the building, hoping that renovation of a former printing plant will soon be finished so they can move in. Work on the building continues after the county’s 911 director was fired in November, and the process of finding a new director has stalled. The county received 21 applications for the $45,000 a year position, and narrowed that to four finalists, but a selection has been put off until early 2008. The dispatchers had worked from the county jail break room until moving to the basement. The new building will basically double their space and include a new CAD system.
