Logging Recorder Fails During Stand-Off

Michigan State Police investigators will have to use written notes and testimony from Lansing police officers during their investigation of the fatal shooting of a man by police, after a logging recorder reportedly failed and did not preserve any radio transmissions. A bounty hunter reported the man inside the room with a gun, and police tried to negotiate for five hours before hearing a shot and entering the room. The telephone recorder did operate and captured a limited number of telephone calls related to the incident. Lansing PD officials say they now re-boot the logging recorder weekly to insure it’s working. The victim’s mother was skeptical about the recorder failure. “I find that hard to believe,” said Eula Guyton. “How are we ever going to find out what really happened?”
