Vegas TV Station Broadcasts to Laptops

If disaster strikes Las Vegas (Nev.), PBS affiliate KLVX-TV will become a major partner for public safety agencies by broadcasting mobile data to in-vehicle laptops. The TV station is converting to digital, and will be using that region-wide signal to broadcast files of evacuation, floorplan, HAZMAT, utility and other data to first-responder laptops. The station transmitter is arranged to broadcast one HD and two SD video signals along with the IP-based emergency data. But the station can also divert either of the three signals to fulfill emergency datacasting requirements if necessary. The project is part of a technical test of the technology, which could be rolled out to other cities and agencies. Read more about the project here.
