Supervisors in Upper Macungie township (Lehigh County, Penn.) have passed a zoning regulation requiring electronic billboard owners to provide connections to the state’s Emergency Alerting System (EAS) so they can quickly display critical information, including Amber Alerts. Two local billboard operators say they’re willing to comply with the new regulation, but said they don’t currently have any electronic billboards in the township. The companies do have such signs in other townships, but have never had to activate them via the state’s EAS.
