Dispatchers Disciplined in Shooting Call

Five Cambria County (Penn.) comm center staffers have been disciplined for their mis-handling of 911 calls from hikers who reported they were pinned down by gunfire along a National Park trail. Officials would not divulge what penalty the three dispatchers and two supervisors will receive. No officers ever arrived during the 1-hour shooting spree, and the hikers eventually ran to safety. No suspect has been identified. Dispatchers apparently were not clear which law enforcement agency had jurisdiction over the trail, and there were several telephone calls among them discussing who should respond.
