Police Never Arrived at Shooting Scene

Several hikers along a rural trail in Conemaugh Township (Cambria County, Penn.) said they dialed 911 for help when someone began shooting at them, but that police never arrived to investigate. The hikers were continuously pinned down by the gunfire from an unknown person, and called at least 8 times for help. The jurisdiction of the shooting location apparently contributed to the lack of response, since it’s on U.S. Park Service property, but within the township and the town of East Taylor. Officials from all the jurisdictions said they are investigating the incident. Read more about the incident and calls here, and a follow-up story here.
