The U.S. House of Representatives has passed their version of the 911 Modernization and Public Safety Act, and now the focus shifts to the Senate for passage of their version of the bill. The House bill passed 406-1, and contains provisions to improve 911 service over VoIP links, and provides grants for IP-enabled emergency networks. Download (pdf) an interesting transcript of floor discussion of the bill, and details about the bill. In other action, the House passed funding for the 9-1-1 Implementation and Coordination Office, but the bill containing many other provisions could be vetoed by the President.
