Caller Kills 2 Despite Dispatcher’s Warning

A Pasadena (Tex.) man shot and killed two burglars who had taken property from his neighbor’s home, despite warnings from a dispatcher during a 911 call that, “I know what you’re feeling, but it’s not worth shooting someone over this.” The man’s 911 call lasted 6 minutes, officials said, and he apparently became frustrated with the police response as the suspects began to leave the house. “I’m gonna shoot. I’m gonna shoot,” the man told the dispatcher, who continued to urge him to stay inside, take no action and wait for the police. But the man armed himself with a 12-gauge shotgun, confronted the suspects and shot them both. “Get the law over here quick. I had no choice. They came in the front yard with me.” Texas allows citizens to use deadly force in some situations when their own property is jeopardized, but it’s unclear if the law applies to a neighbor’s property.
