Woman Tied Up, Dispatcher Ends Call

A woman tied up by a burglar who invaded her Wiley (Wash.) home is criticizing the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher who answered her 911 for not staying on the line with her. The woman says the dispatcher didn’t know if the burglary might return, and should have kept her on the phone. A transcript of the call shows the dispatcher ended the 90-second call by saying, “OK, we’ll get someone out there just as soon as possible,” and then, “Mmm, bye bye.” Sheriff’s officials said the dispatcher did the right thing, since the woman was no longer in danger. The victim was able to speed-dial a friend, who arrived and untied her before deputies arrived 15 minutes after her 911 call.
