Investigation of County’s 911 Contracts

The Douglas County (Colo.) sheriff and district attorney have begun an investigation into a $200,000 contract for 911 console gear awarded to Watson Dispatch, a deal later publicized by print advertisements in trade publications that featured sheriff’s chief Mike Coleman, who also heads the 911 Board. Coleman was part of the team that recommended the bid award. But KMGH-TV investigators say they have turned up a direct connection between Coleman and several outside consulting firms and representatives of Watson Dispatch, through a business Coleman operates as “Consultant Connection.” Sheriff Dave Weaver told the TV reporter he was unaware of Coleman’s outside activities or connection to Watson Dispatch, adding that an investigation has been started.
