The Atlanta (Geo.) city council is scheduled to vote next week on a proposal to spend $41.6 million on a 10-year lease for a new public safety radio system that would serve Cobb and DeKalb County agencies, including Atlanta police and fire. Council members questioned whether technology would change so much in 10 years that their system would soon be obsolete. But city officials said Motorola would provide system upgrades over the life of the lease. The radio proposal was in part sparked by a shooting at the county courthouse in 2005 that involved several agencies on different radio systems.
