Fires Tax Calif. Comm Centers

Wildfires that swept across a huge portion of southern California generated thousands of 911 calls to local dispatchers in several counties, and also thousands of out-bound telephone calls to warn residents in the path of the fires to evacuate. The city of San Diego’s Reverse 911 emergency notification system supplied by PlantCML was used to provide over 500,000 emergency alerts and information messages to residents. But Orange and Los Angeles counties have no such systems to alert their residents, officials say. Read more about these systems here. Listen to some 911 calls from terrified residents here.
