Dispatcher Urges Men, ‘Hang On’

A great story from Faribault County (Minn.) where two duck hunters capsized their boat on Minnesota Lake and fell into the chilly water. Neither man was wearing a life jacket, and one didn’t know how to swim. As both tried to stay afloat, and as the water began to sap their strength, one dialed 911 for help and reached state patrol dispatcher Brian Petersen. Over the next 30 minutes and two calls Petersen talked to the man, urging him to hang on while rescue units responded to the scene. At one point the man told Petersen that if anything happened to him, “Tell my kids I love them.” Both men were rescued and recovered. Read more and listen to the entire 911 call here.
