St. Joseph County (Mich.) dispatcher Tracy Monroe posts on a Web site that she and 2 year-old daughter Marissa are at Ronald McDonald House in New York City for daughter’s cancer treatments, leaving behind issues of her employment. She had been taking 12 weeks of federally-allowed leave, and asked the county for “bridge” time off until she became eligible for the next 12 weeks. In the meantime, she and Marissa had to travel to NYC for cancer treatments. The county Board of Commissioners met Tuesday night about extending her leave. Until then, her job is on the bubble: three “write-ups” justify firing at the county. During her NYC trip she will miss three shifts, despite making extensive trades with other employees. Read her journal of the long adventure here.
