It took emergency crews 50 minutes to arrive at an auto accident on a desolate stretch of Oregon highway where a woman had flipped her car, amputating her hand and collapsing a lung. Other motorists, including a retired police office and ER nurse, tried to manage the situation, but later complained about the poor communications among the involved agencies. Apparently dispatchers were never told–or didn’t immediately realize–the severity of the victim’s injuries, delaying a medical helicopter response.
