State Studies Use of 911 Funds

Cabell County (WV) claims it’s legal for them to use about $200,000 of the county’s 911 surcharge funds to pay for county worker raises, a move disputed by other counties. The state’s Public Service Commission is now investigating the spending, asking Cabell County for justification. The county claimed the PSC doesn’t have jurisdiction over their spending of the 911 funds, but the PSC ruled they do, and gave the county 15 days to provide the information. The investigation was sparked when Kanawha County commission president Kent Carper reported the spending to the PSC.
