The Lansing (Mich.) city council named dispatcher Sherry McDonald a “Hometown Hero” for her actions during tornadoes that swept across the region in August. McDonald was monitoring adjacent county radios and activated the Ingham County siren system seven minutes before the National Weather Service issued an alert. “We believe that it was instrumental in saving lives; certainly avoiding any injuries,” said Lansing fire chief Tom Cochran.
