Sheriff’s Payback Against Dispatcher

Seneca County (NY) sheriff Leo Connolly has been indicted by a grand jury on a wide variety of charges involving mis-use of funds and theft of county property. Four other deputies and an undersheriff were also indicted last month. Among the grand jury charges is the allegation that Connolly subpoenaed records from a local Internet service provider, where negative comments had been anonymously posted by citizens during the sheriff’s election. According to leaked grand jury testimony, Connolly then targeted the posters for traffic tickets and surveillance as retaliation for the Internet postings. Dispatcher Thomas Castiglione was among those who was targeted, according to the grand jury testimony. Download (pdf) the sheriff’s indictment and check Count #4 and #7 here.
