‘Single Frequency’ For Bay Area?

A San Francisco Chronicle newspaper story begins, “Dozens of Bay Area police, fire and transit agencies will be able to talk to each other on a single frequency during a disaster, making the region the first in the nation to coordinate all its emergency communications systems…” Of course, that’s exactly the problem the agencies are trying to avoid. The story doesn’t clearly outline the 700 MHz band, region-wide, probably trunked radio network (with VHF spokes) that will be constructed to support scores of agencies in the SF/Oakland region that have frequent daily interactions.
