911 Database Failure on Shooting Call

A 911 call reporting the murder-suicide of five persons in Sannich (BC) was mis-routed to the Victoria public safety comm center because of a database failure, according to officials of telecom company Telus. The call came at 3:06 a.m. from a woman who reported a fight with a knife among several persons. After about 60 seconds the call was disconnected. The dispatcher called the number back, and officers arrived to find the five persons dead. Neither Telus or Saanich police officials would speculate on if the mis-route resulted in an actual response delay. Telus did confirm that the 911 system was experiencing problems for two days when the incident occurred.
