The UK Airwave public safety radio network is now being rolled out to EMS agencies in east England, and officials say they are receiving a positive response from users of the controversial service. Airwave is already being used by 150,000 law enforcement officers across the country, and is scheduled for a complete national, public safety roll-out through 2009. Some agencies have criticized reception and voice quality on the TETRA-based system, saying it’s inadequate. London officials have found there is limited coverage in subway tunnels and inside some larger buildings. Airwave is now working to install equipment in London’s Underground transport system to improve coverage.
