Dispatching Debate Continues

There is no end to the debate over dispatching in Baxter County (Ark.), where a local judge says the sheriff cannot take over handling of a 7-digit phone number from the 911 center. Sheriff John Montgomery says the phone number was answered by the sheriff for 40 to 50 years, but was re-routed in 2004 to the 911 center. The sheriff and the 911 board have been arguing over who should handle 911 calls for the past few months. In early August Montgomery said his agency would begin handling radio traffic and answering county 911 calls this Wednesday. Read more about the deadline and debate here.
