The age-old debate over consolidation is being played out in Audrain County (Mo.), where officials want to drop the only other existing PSAP in the county, in Vandalia, and merge it with the county sheriff’s center in the city of Mexico (not the country). County board officials want to save money, but residents of Vandalia are afraid that dispatchers from another town won’t be familiar with their geography and problems, and that their 911 service will suffer.
