The Jackson (Tenn.) emergency comm center has changed its policy on handling fire responses that possibly involve trapped persons: dispatchers will now notify the responding firefighters and send units at the slightest hint of a trapped person. Under a 10 year-old policy, dispatchers previously contacted the on-duty battalion chief, explained the situation and let the chief decide whether to respond or not. The change came after a fatal car crash just outside the city limits, and a responding city fire unit failed to arrive at the scene.
