Baxter County (Ark.) sheriff John Montgomery is battling with other county officials on how non-emergency telephone calls are handled, saying he wants them to come directly to his agency, instead of being answered currently by 911 center dispatchers. Montgomery complains that it would be more efficient to have callers’ questions answered by dispatchers who have the paperwork and other sheriff’s records. He says that 911 calls would continue to be answered by 911 center dispatchers under his plan. Read more about this confusing debate here.
