Schuylkill County 911 dispatchers had to use their wits to locate an auto accident victim who crashed at night, and remained unconscious until 9 a.m. the next morning. He called his grandparents on his phone, since that’s where he had most-recently been, but couldn’t retrace his path along the road to tell them where he was. Dispatchers sent units along Route 61, but he actually has passed a point where the roadway merged with I-81. Officers and a helicopter in two counties, while dispatchers then talked to the man on a 911 calls. They noticed the cellular tower that the 911 call hit, and heard background noise that sounded like an Interstate highway, and switched the search zone to I-81. Without Phase II capabilities, the dispatchers had units drive with their sirens on to locate the man. Finally, a state trooper noticed skid marks, found the man’s overturned car and directed rescue units to him. Read the story here.
