A Tippecanoe County (Ind.) Emergency Management volunteer took his Motorola MTS200 radio home, where it was apparently stolen. Shortly after dispatchers began receiving phony reports of emergencies from the radio, including a male voice saying, “Officer down!” Officials said they hope the battery runs down soon, and said they’re working with Motorola to have the radio shut down remotely. The radio operates on the county’s 800 MHz trunked radio system that is used by county agencies, Lafayette police and fire, and Purdue University public safety departments.
