Cisco Supports P25 Interop

Networking company Cisco Systems Inc. announced today their support of the Project 25 family of open standards and the P25 Inter Sub-System Interface (ISSI), in collaboration with companies Raytheon JPS and EADS. In a press release issued during the annual APCO conference in Baltimore (Md.), the company said that using the companies’ systems, “Efficient solutions can be developed that increase the effective reach and coverage, flexibility and reliability of public safety communications by using a true network of networks,” including linking different systems that use different protocols. The press release also noted that interoperability with P25 radio systems is, “a key requirement of the Public Safety Interoperable Communications grant program announced last month by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.” The grant program totals $968 million and is targeted to advanced IP-based technologies.
