A veteran California Highway Patrol officer was killed on Tuesday by a speeding driver who was being pursued by police along Highway 50 in the northern part of the state. Douglas Russell, 46, was struck by the car as he was laying out spike stripes along the highway to stop the suspect’s vehicle. Russell is the husband of Lynn Russell, a Folsom Police Department dispatch supervisor who was scheduled to return to work tomorrow after battling breast cancer. Condolence cards or letters can be sent to her at FPD, 46 Natoma St., Folsom, CA 95630.
