911 District Money Woes

The 911 system in Hancock County (Miss.) nearly missed its payroll and system maintenance payments because it’s already spent nearly all of this year’s budget allocation, and won’t receive any new funding until the fiscal year starts Oct. 1st. For example, the district says it budgeted $880 for Internet services, but now has a $5,776 bill, and that’s it’s $60,000 behind on its monthly $15,000 911 system bill from Motorola. County official approved transferring $30,000 from gambling casino revenues to the district. Overall, the district takes in $395,000 a year from a $1 per-line surcharge, but has a spending budget of $876,465. Read more here.
