The FCC will hold a public meeting this Wednesday at which it may announce its decision for rules on the auction of spectrum in the 700 MHz band set for 2008. The Commission has received input on the issue from a broad range of companies and individuals, representing a wide variety of motives. Among those submitting opinions is former FBI director Louis Freeh, who submission was on letterhead with the FBI seal and with his name suffixed, “Former Director Federal Bureau of Investigation.” In the letter Freeh said, “Based on my study and long-term understanding of building and operating a successful public safety communications network, I believe a wholesale only requirement will serve public safety’s best interest.” Download (pdf) a copy of the letter here.
