A Madison (Wisc.) man who dialed 911 to report a man with a gun gave the calltaker a full description–himself. The 48 year-old man then picked up a pellet gun that closely resembled a real handgun, went outside his house and waited on the front porch. When three officers arrived and confronted him, he refused to put down the gun, which the officers said they believed was real. An officer fired twice and killed the man. One minute and 47 seconds before the shooting, the man’s ex-wife dialed 911 to warn a Dane County dispatcher that the gun wasn’t real. However, the information wasn’t radioed to officers before the shooting occurred. The man’s family said he was depressed, and officials believe he intended for officers to kill him.
