OnStar Digital Deadline Is 2008

The OnStar service is making the conversion to an all-digital cellular network for its communications on Jan. 1st, meaning that those with older analog equipment will no longer have service. The service is the frequent source of calls for police, fire and EMS assistance from motorists. The company is now sending out letters to customers with 2002 and earlier vehicles that have the analog cellular gear, telling them of the service change. The company said that 90% of their customers have digital systems, or analog systems that can be converted. And OnStar has offered analog customers a year of free service if they purchase a new vehicle equipped with OnStar equipment.
