False 911 Calls = $150,000

A WKYT (Lexington, Ken.) television report notes that about 35% of the 911 calls the city’s public safety comm center receives are non-emergencies, which the city estimates costs an additional $150,000 a year to handle. 911 director David Lucas says non-emergencies can be reported to a 7-digit number or 311. You’ve heard them before, but the TV report includes some of the unnecessary calls here.
