Dispatcher Killed During Ridealong

Claremore (Okla.) police dispatcher Amanda Kelley, 20, was killed last Friday night when the Rogers County Sheriff’s patrol car she was riding in struck a civilian’s car, and the patrol car burst into flames. Dep. Joe Batt, 24, was injured in the crash but was rescued by passersby. The driver of the other vehicle, Doris McQueen, was also killed when her SUV was broadsided by the patrol car, and her teenage daughter was injured. Batt had been responding to assist another deputy who was pursuing a suspected DUI driver. Officials say witnesses have conflicting accounts if the patrol car’s emergency lights and siren were operating. Kelley was riding along with the deputy to gain experience, hoping to become an officer some day. Kelley’s services and burial were today.
