Details on FCC Chief’s Auction Plan

A USA Today story has outlined some of the provisions of FCC chair Kevin Martin’s proposal on the upcoming auction of spectrum, including a possible allocation for public safety to build a nationwide network. According to the story, the so-called “D Block” for public safety would have limited and controlled access, unlike some other spectrum blocks being auctioned next February. The auction has been the subject of extensive lobbying by cellular carriers and even Google, who are vying for spectrum that would generate revenues. Read the story here.
