The California Highway Patrol (CHP) comm center that serves the metro San Diego area has just 29 of its authorized 55 dispatcher positions filled, or a 47% vacancy rate, according to a story in the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper. The facility includes the very busy CHP comm center and a traffic management center that tries to keep the freeways moving smoothly. But many dispatchers work 60-hour weeks to fill the vacant positions, creating extra stress for an already-stressful job. Read more here.
