Logging Tape E-Mailed to Media

Oswego city council member Ed Harrington dialed 911 to report seeing flames and smoke from a nearby house, but became involved in a testy exchange with an unnamed dispatcher. Days later, a digital copy of the logging tape of the call was e-mailed from the account of Oswego County 911 director Mike Allen to the city’s fire chief. But ultimately the e-mail and 911 call recording was forwarded onward to a long list of media outlets and public officials. During the call the dispatcher asked what was on fire and if he saw flames. Harrington replied, “Yeah, there’s flames there’s smoke, send the damn fire trucks and stop jerking around.” Harrington criticized the release of the tape, and also the e-mail message which claimed Harrington’s report of a fire was “unfounded.” Read more here.
