Lansing (Mich.) patrol officers will double-up when assigned to a 2 square-mile area that is considered a radio dead zone, in order to provide an additional measure of safety for the officers. The action confirms police complaints that the radio system doesn’t provide coverage in the southwest corner of the city, although the police union says problems exist in other parts of the city, too. No overtime will be used, since the double-up will be accomplished by halving the number of units on the beat in the affected area. Police expect that a tower realignment will provide a fix for the problem within 3 months. Read more here.
