Debate Over 911 Surcharge Use

Trumbull County (Ohio) 911 Center Director Michael Dolhancryk wants to spend $500,000 in state surcharge funds to upgrade the center’s gear for Phase II capabilites, but the county’s seven independent comm centers want to use the money to upgrade their own system’s, creating a hot debate. In 2005 a consultant said that six of the seven independent centers could easily merge into the county’s center, a suggestion that seems more pertinent now that money is being debated. County officials believe the independents should pay half the upgrade costs, instead of just the 20% they now pay. Read more about the debate here.
