Chicago’s transit authority says that video cameras installed in city buses will soon allow dispatchers to see what’s occurring on the vehicles to help coordinate emergency responses. The agency has installed video cameras on its buses, and is now upgrading them with Wi-Fi gear to transmit the video short distances, including to nearby police patrol cars, and fixed Wi-Fi hot-spots, where the signal would then be relayed to the comm center. The agency also plans to link up its 75 stations with the same system to allow direct observation by the police and comm center.
