Tragedy Upon Tragedy

An unbelievable story of tragedy from St. Tammany Parish (La.), where sheriff’s dispatcher Marylin Mayo, 26, is in critical condition with spinal injuries after the patrol car she was riding in was struck and demolished Wednesday by a falling pine tree during a thunderstorm that rolled through Covington. Cpl. Linden Raimer, 35, who was driving the patrol car, was killed at about 4 p.m. May and Raimer were engaged and talking about a vacation wedding, officials said. Both were participating in a miles-long funeral procession for Dep. Hilery Mayo (no relation), who died last week when his car skidded into a tree. Marylin Mayo is in Tulane Medical Center being treated for her injuries, which doctors say will leave her paralyzed from the chest down. Meteorologists say winds gusted to 51 mph during the storm. See the car here. The 911 CARES program will have more information on how to help soon.
