Strange Qwest Phone Campaign

Communications provider Qwest Communications has kicked off a strange promotion in Idaho, giving away 500 telephones to residents of the Treasure Valley as part of its “Connect for Safety” campaign. The company claims that wired telephones are more useful for emergencies, and instantly provide the caller’s location when they dial 911. But some critics, including Verizon Wireless execs, point out that wired phones are only useful when they are available during an emergency, and that cellular phones provide that type of access anywhere. Qwest points out that wired phones continue to work even when the customer suffers a power failure. Read more about the promotion here.
