Dispatchers Arrested At Drug House

Prince George’s County (Md.) Public Safety director Vernon Herron has issued a press release saying that two comm center employees were present when county narcotics officers served a search warrant May 17th on a local home. Neither dispatcher was named in the press release, but Herron said both were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. Police identified the arrested dispatcher as Marsha Sam. One of the employees was arrested on narcotics violations, while the other was released by police without charges. “The requirements to become a 911 dispatcher carry a lot of responsibility as we rely on call takers and dispatchers to be the lifeline between our first responders and citizens,” Herron said in the statement. “Under no circumstances will we tolerate having employees involved in criminal conduct.” [Update-The second dispatcher, Rena Sims, was arrested May 24th on drug charges. Both are suspended during an internal investigation.]
