Essay on 911 Call

The WDAF-TV Web site has posted an essay from Overland Park (Kan.) dispatcher Candace Stender, recounting her handling of a 911 call made in 2004 from a mother who reported that her son had just attacked a social worker with a knife and chain saw. The social worker was killed and the mother injured while trying to protect the victim. Andrew Ellmaker was charged with murder and assault, with his defense team admitting he committed the crime, but that it was not premeditated. The jury is now deliberating on the testimony that it heard over the past week. Read Stender’s interesting essay on her day, the call and the aftermath here.
