911 Calls From Trunk

An 84 year-old Fort Loramie (Ohio) woman was kidnapped, raped and murdered in early April, and now her killer has pleaded guilty and has received a life sentence with no parole. Victoria Eilerman was taken from her home by the killer, and stuffed into the trunk of her car. While in the trunk, Eilerman made three cellular 911 hang-up calls to the Shelby County 911 center, and three more calls during which she actually spoke. However, road noise, the quality of the connection and other factors made the calls barely intelligible. The cellular carrier didn’t have Phase II features, and the handset had no GPS capability. Dispatchers traced the call to Eilerman through the carrier, but could not locate her or the car. An informant later led police to the suspect, who agreed to show police Eilerman’s body in exchange for no death penalty. Listen (mp3) to the three 911 calls here.
